Jackson State University to launch new brand

(JACKSON, Miss.) – Jackson State University today announced it would be unveiling its new brand during halftime of the JSU Tigers vs. Alabama A&M football game scheduled for 4 p.m. Nov. 10. The Sonic Boom of the South marching band, along with JSU cheerleaders and the Tiger Hype Squad, will be a part of launching the new brand at the game. This new brand was the culmination of an extensive research project across numerous stakeholder groups important to JSU.

“In an increasingly competitive environment, we want to position the university for the future,” said JSU President Carolyn W. Meyers. “We want to ensure that the logo reflects the quality of the institution and that we are communicating with a unified voice through our branding. We believe the new brand reflects the university’s long history and tradition, as well as our commitment to learning, technology and innovation.”

The new logo will be unveiled at halftime with video and limited giveaways of JSU T-shirts with the new mark. During the launch, you will also get a sneak peek at the university’s new website, designed by the team of vitalink®, AndiSites, Inc. and WebZen in conjunction with the web team at JSU. This extensive site will be launched in phases and is designed to convey the essence of JSU. In addition, the site is user-friendly and easy to navigate. The new brand will be rolled out to all channels over the next few months, including TV, billboards, buses, vehicles and signage. Merchandise with the new logo will be available in the JSU Bookstore and from other JSU licensed vendors next semester.

“The process of developing a new brand takes some time,” said David Hoard, Vice President of Institutional Advancement. “We utilized vitalink®, a third-party marketing firm, to survey JSU faculty and staff, alumni, current students and prospective students in and out of state to learn how they view the university and to test new logos to see which would best resonate with our audiences. We are very pleased with the new brand and believe it truly represents the best of JSU.”

Jackson State will be asking for feedback on the new brand via social media and encourages everyone to share their thoughts.
