(JACKSON, Miss.) – Gwendolyn Caples has been named the director of Jackson State University’s new Welcome Center, which is slated to open this fall.
Caples, a 1977 Jackson State graduate and Jackson native, previously served eight years as the university’s director of Alumni and Constituency Relations and 11 years as the public relations director at Mississippi Public BroadcastingShe holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and a master’s degree in mass communications from Mississippi College.
“I am elated about this new opportunity to welcome visitors to our beautiful campus and introduce them to this university,” said Caples. “It’s a place that I believe in and love.”
The Welcome Center, to be housed at the JSU Student Center on Dalton Street, will feature a multimedia information wall and provide an assortment of literature about the university. Meeting space will be available at the facility, and its staff will coordinate tours and events.
“The center will be the first impression many have of our campus,” said David Hoard, vice president of Institutional Advancement. “Ms. Caples’ great personality, excitement for JSU and sheer knowledge of the university, its programs, history and alumni, make her the ideal choice to lead the center.”
