The optical shop is the third location for business owner and optometrist Dr. Tonyatta Hairston, who owns shops in Jackson’s Belhaven neighborhood and in Magee.
“I thought the University Place location was a great opportunity for the students primarily,” said Hairston, a Jackson native who graduated from Tougaloo College and the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis. “And it’s an awesome location to serve the entire community.”
One University Place is a JSU-initiated real estate development that includes 78 luxury apartments above 22,000 square feet of prime retail space. The $18 million building is the largest private real estate development west Jackson has seen in 30 years.
Jackson State University alum Dr. Chaka Norwood is the staff optometrist at Envision Eye Care’s One University Place location. The new boutique offers walk-in or scheduled appointments, accepts the JSU Supercard and is currently offering 25 percent off eye exams, glasses and sunglasses.
Hairston said the shop carries designer frames including Gucci, RayBan, Nike, Carrera and Versace.
“We see quite a few Jackson State students at our Belhaven location, and I thought it would be more convenient for them to be able to bring them the same high quality eyewear at reasonable prices,” she said.
Located next door to the newly opened Gallery 1 at One University Place, Envision Eye Care is the second of four businesses slated to open in the development over the next two months. The other retailers include the Penguin restaurant, Royal Bleau Women’s Boutique and Gallery 1, which opened on August 30.
Envision Eye Care & Optical Boutique is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday and offers extended hours from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday. To contact the boutique, call 601-487-6812.
