JSU President Carolyn W. Meyers to speak at graduate commencement ceremony – 6 p.m. today

(JACKSON, Miss) – Jackson State University President Carolyn W. Meyers will be the commencement speaker at the university’s graduate commencement exercises at 6 p.m. today at the Lee E. Williams Athletics and Assembly Center.

The ceremony will confer master’s, specialist and doctoral degrees to 363 graduates and grant golden diplomas to JSU’s class of 1961.

Meyers assumed leadership of Jackson State in January 2011. She has more than 30 years of experience in higher education, serving most recently as president of Norfolk State University in Norfolk, Va.

The university’s undergraduate commencement ceremony will be held at 8 a.m. Saturday, May 7, at the Mississippi Veteran’s Memorial Stadium. The class of 2011 includes 1,337 graduates.

Ed Gordon, host of BET’s “Weekly with Ed Gordon,” will be the undergraduate commencement speaker.
