JSU students elect 2011-2012 Miss JSU and SGA President

Mea Ashley, 2011-2012 Miss JSU

The 2011 Jackson State University campus-wide student elections have been completed and the coveted positions of Miss JSU and Student Government Association President have been filled. Mea Ashley, a junior mass communications major, was elected 2011-2012 Miss JSU after receiving 54 percent of the student vote on April 8. Matthew Thompson, who majors in both accounting and finance, was elected president of the 2011-2012 Student Government Association after receiving 61 percent of the vote. In total, 19 SGA positions were filled during the elections, including two by appointment.

 School alum, is a member of eight campus organizations including Alpha Lamda Delta Honor Society and Sigma Alpha Pi Leadership and Success Society. “This is such an honor,” said the former Murrah High Homecoming Queen. “I feel great that the students believe in me and that I can be an ambassador for the school and a voice for them.”      

      Thompson, who will celebrate his 21st birthday on May 3, is an alumnus of Callaway High School. “It’s a dream come true,” he said. “I’ve been working toward this since my freshman year. I’m pretty excited about the position.” During the election, students also voted for the senior, junior and sophomore class officers.
